September Blog – “Dental Discussions”
Welcome to our first blog!
Dental Discussions will be a monthly blog providing you with inside information about the practice.
So first things first …. What has been going on in August / September?
We have attended two wedding fair’s this month. Our first was ‘The Big Durham Wedding show’ at Rainton Meadow area, the second was ‘The Big Bridal Super Show’ at Ramside Hall and Spa. The team gave away goodie bags with some ‘treats’ inside, and will be helping a lot of bride, grooms and wedding attendee’s achieve their own perfect smile for the big day. One of our most popular treatments is the ‘Special Occasion Package for 2 people’, this includes a scale and air flow (stain removal treatment) each, a whitening kit each with custom made trays; all of which is for £399, saving you £117 if you did this individually. This isn’t just for a wedding you can book this for any special occasion.
Our long standing part time nurse / part of the furniture Helen is spreading her wings and leaving us. Helen is now a qualified beauty therapist and through a lot of late nights and weekends; has built up such a big clientele that she will be working in a Salon full time. After 16 years as a Dental Nurse, she will be a huge miss not only to us but the Dental community. Helen said (and I quote) “I’m nervous, all I have ever known is teeth!” lol. The full team will be visiting Helen on a regular occurrence for our nail and lash appointments; so she can’t get rid of us that easily! We wish her the best of luck in this exciting new adventure.
That’s not all that has changed … If you have come into or called the practice recently you might have noticed a new receptionist with a funny accent … yes, that would be me! My name is Rebecca and I am new here at Church Street Dental Practice. I have been a Dental Nurse for nearly 10 years now and have worked in the industry across two continents. The funny accent I mentioned earlier comes from living in Australia for the last two and a half years. I returned home from in August and was very keen to be part of the team. During my time in Australia, while working, I studied ‘Social Media Marketing’ at Sydney’s Australian Pacific College and will be taking part in marketing for the practice. Sadly it wasn’t all fun and games and I did work very hard during my time in Australia, working as a dental Nurse in The Gold Coast, Perth and Sydney.
I spend a year on the gold coast working with a fantastic dentist who specialised mostly in ‘Dental Implants’ during our busy time we would place at least one dental implant a day therefore the team and I could complete a surgical set up blindfolded (not literally don’t worry lol). When I moved to Perth I worked with a British endodontist (expert in root canal therapy) whom was a lecturer and expert in his field, and a British dentist who was the leading Invisalgn provider for Western Australia (which is an area so big that France would easily fit inside 4 times, Germany over 7 times, the entire United Kingdom almost fits a staggering 11 times and England over 20 times). This was the point I fell in love with Invisalign; seeing daily the changes in not only people’s smiles, but their confidence was a great thing to be a part of. I am grateful to have learned all about Invisalign under a specialist and to have been part of so many peoples smile journey’s.
Then in January 2019 I moved to Sydney to study and this is where I worked with ‘the big dogs’. As I was studying I worked for a locum agency, and I quickly learned that we, British trained nurses were hugely valued! Everywhere I worked I was requested back which enabled me to have the pick; I worked with only specialists, including: a periodontist, 2x celebrity cosmetic dentists a national recognised Prosthodontist an Endodontist and a few great general dentists. On a day to day basis I would chairside for Cosmetic veneers, crowns, composite bonding, surgical wisdom teeth removal, surgical periodontics treatments, Invisalign, anti-wrinkle treatment, fillers , root canal therapy, occlusion adjustments, implants and implant crowns – to name a few ! lol.
That sums up our eventful month of August / September, we are excited to see what the next month brings.
